My Musical Theatre Audition

For my musical theatre audition, I decided to do a duet with another student. We sang a song called "All that Jazz" which is from the musical Chicago. We choose this song because it showed both our personalities and it wasn't a serious song, so we just had a bit of fun rehearsing. The characters that sing this song in the production of Chicago are Velma, Roxie and the chorus. This song reminds me of someone that is singing in a seductive club to loads of different lads, she say's things like 'I'm going to rouge my knees and roll my stockings down', 'Start the car, I know a whoopee spot' and many more lines that sound seductive and sexy. This song is relevant to the plot because the film is about an actress called Roxie who dreams to a life on the Vaudville stage in Chicago. Velma sings this song at the opening of the musical because she sings it in a seductive club where Roxie happens to be. Roxie is inspried by her and wants to be just like her.
My strengths during rehearsing and performing our audition was I worked really well with my partner because we both decided on which song we would like to sing and we planned what bits we were going to sing, so it was fair between us. Another one of my strengths was I have had some experience with singing because I did Performing Arts as a GCSE, also I have been in school musicals. My last strength is for our audition we had a costume which was a black dress, heels and black tights, so that we looked the part.
One of my weaknesses during rehearsing and performing our audition was that I wasn't confident about singing verses on my own because I don't like people hearing me sing. Another one of my weaknesses was that I would of prefered to sing a much more lively song because when we performed it, I wasn't happy about it, it was slightly awkward. My last weakness was me and my partner needed to meet up and practice because at one point we didn't know what we was doing, we wasn't prepared at all and we left a bit to late.

All that Jazz Lyrics
[Velma Kelly]
Come on babe why don't we paint the town
and all that jazz

I'm gonna rouge my knees
and roll my stockings down

and all that jazz

Start the car I know a whoopee spot
Where the gin is cold
but the piano's hot!

It's justy a noisy hall
Where there's a nightly brawl
And all that
jazz
And all that jazz

And all that jazz
Slick your hair
And wear your buckle shoes
And all that Jazz

I hear that Father Dip
Is gonna blow the blues
And all that Jazz

Hold on, hon
We're gonna bunny hug
I bought some aspirin
Down at United Drug
I case you shake apart
And want a brand new start
To do that

[Roxie Hart] (imagine)
Jazz

[Velma Kelly]
Find a flask
We're playing fast and loose
And all that jazz
Right up here
Is where I store the juice

And all that jazz

Come on, babe
We're gonna brush the sky
I bet you luck Lindy
Never flew so high
'Cause in the stratosphere
How could he lend an ear

to all that jazz?
Oh, you're gonna see your sheba shimmy shake

[Company]
And all that jazz
[Velma Kelly]
Oh, she's gonna shimmy 'till her garters break
[Company]
And all that jazz
[Velma Kelly]
Show her where to park her girdle
Oh, her mother's blood'd curdle

[Company]
If she'd hear her baby's queer
[Velma Kelly]
For all that jazz
All that jazz

Come on, babe
Why Don't we paint
The town?
And all that jazz

And all that jazz
I'm gonna rouge my knees
And roll my stockings down
And all that jaz
z

And all that jazz
Start the car
I know a whoopee spot
Where the gin is cold
But the piano's hot

It's just a noisy hall
Where there's a nightly brawl
And all that jazz

No, I'm no one's wife
But, Oh, I love my life

And all
that
Jazz!
That Jazz!
